Dr Scott Burns Spoke about The Big One"

Professor Burns was out guest at the October 5 meeting.  He let us know about the geology of earthquakes, the risks we face and urged everyone to consider earthquake preparedness.

Earthquake preparedness includes a home earthquake kit. The American Red Cross recommends having water, non-perishable food, first aid kit, medications, flashlight, portable radio and batteries in the kit.

As a whole Burns said Oregonians have come a long way in being prepared, but he worries about the local infrastructure should the “big one” ever hit.

“The interesting thing for us here in Oregon, we never thought, our buildings before 1990’s have no earthquake codes,” said Burns.

Burns said the Northwest could be in store for a magnitude 9.0 earthquake if and when it happens.  Messaged received Dr Burns, be prepared!
